It was the Clayton Kershaw show as not only did the righty pitch a 4 hit shut out game, but at 0 – 0 he opens the scoring with a big…big centre field home run. Giants starter Matt Cain matched him for 6 solid innings, but the bullpen blew up big time as the Dodgers scored 4 to complete a comfortable victory. The normally venomous Giants batters had no answer for Kershaw’s wicked array of pitches. A great game to watch and for me proof that Kershaw could be competing for the Cy Young award if he can keep this kind of momentum.

Winning pitcher – Clayton Kershaw (1-0)
Losing pitcher – George Kontos (0-1)
MVP – Clayton Kershaw
Chump of the day – George Kontos
Entertainment value – 9/10
My score – 1/1 (I picked the Dodgers

GAME 2 – San Francisco Giants V Los Angeles Dodgers

Tonight I’m watching the World Series winning Giants defend their title starting against their eternal rivals. In addition, two of the best pitchers in baseball go head to head and it will be an absorbing battle. I think the Dodgers starter Clayton Kershaw will just get the better of Matt Cain…but it’s gonna be tight! Whatever happens both teams are legitimate challengers for 2013 World series honours

My pick for tonight – LA Dodgers

Texas Rangers 2 Houston Astros 8

MLB: Spring Training-Houston Astros at Miami Marlins
GAME 1 – Texas Rangers 2 v 8 Houston Astros

The ‘stros pulled off an excellent opening day win, blowing away a lacklustre pitching performance from the Rangers. Underrated starter Bud Norris was made a great start to the season, pitching 5.2 – 2 hits – 2 runs with a 3.18 ERA. My MVP was CF Justin Maxwell with 3 bats – 2 hits – 2 RBI – 2 runs.

Winning pitcher – Bud Norris (1-0)
Losing pitcher – Matt Harrison (0-1)
MVP Justin Maxwell
Chump of the day : Tied Mitch Moreland 0 – 4 Twice left runners on base with 2 out
Lyle Lovett murdering the national anthem
Entertainment value : 7/10
My score : 0/1 (I picked Rangers to win)

Texas Rangers @ Houston Astros 31/3

GAME 1 – Texas Rangers V Houston Astros

I’m stoked for the first game of the new season. It’ll be interesting to see how the Astro’s compete following their switch from National to American League. The Rangers will be challenging for the American West divisional title again and it’s gonna be a great battle between them and the L.A Angels for the top spot.

As for tonight’s game, I predict a Rangers win.

Rangers Line up:
1. 2B: Ian Kinsler
